Making a Brand Timeline

Dear Students,

Lots of the brands you and I like to use have been around for more than 100 years. In class we talked about the Gold Rush and how Levi Strauss started his company making trousers for the miners.

Your assignment for the next 4 lessons is to make and present a timeline of a famous brand.

What is a timeline? A timeline is list of events. The list is chronological so the items appear in the order in which they happened.

Example: Check out these timelines of Levi Strauss jeans and of Coca cola.

Step One: Choose  a Brand

Your first job will be to choose a brand. Try and think of one that has been around for a really long time.

Here are some suggestions:

  • Coca Cola
  • Apple
  • Ford
  • Burberry’s

Or you can choose your own. Discuss with your partner why you are going to choose this particular brand.

Step Two: Research your Brand

After choosing your brand, you can start to research it.

Use the internet to find out information. You can usually find something on the company website, (for example CocaCola.com).

Answer these questions about your company.

Step Three: choose the most important events

Now that you know some things about your brand it’s time to pick the most important events for your timeline.

The first event is usually when and how the company started. What’s the second important event?

IMPORTANT: remember to write in the Past Tense.

Your teacher will give you a worksheet to fill in together with your partner.

FIRST DRAFT: Give the worksheet to your teacher before you continue to step 4

Step Four: make a presentation for your timeline

This is the final step. Now you and your partner must make a presentation to show the class about your brand.

You can make a Prezi or a short video. Look at the example of a Levi’s Timeline below to give you an idea.
