Getting the order of the words in a sentence right is one of the most important things in English.
SVO
One basic rule to remember is SVO. What does that mean.
It means subject – verb – object. Or in Dutch, onderwerp – persoonsvorm – leidend voorwerp.
Here’s a few examples:
- Dave likes sweets. Dave is the Subject, likes is the verb, sweets are the object.
- We (S) sing (V) songs (O).
It works in questions as well.
- Do you (S) like (V) racing (O)?
- Will Joyce (S) marry (V) Hannah (O)?
